Breaking: John Galliano Fired From Dior On Paris Fashion Week Eve

John Galliano Fired From Dior

Apparently Dior’s zero-tolerance policy tromps Paris Fashion Week, because they just announced that they began layoff proceedings against John Galliano. As the situation quickly spiraled out of control, the designer’s suspension has now turned into being relieved of all Dior duties.

Last Friday, John Galliano’s drunken bar brawl turned into anti-Semitism allegations and a police investigation. Dior, in turn, waisted no time and immediately suspended the designer. While we still thought Galliano might recover, Natalie Portman refused to wear Dior to the 2011 Oscars – despite being Dior’s spokeswoman. Then came to light a video of another incident in which a heavily drunk Galliano has a less than pleasant insults exchange that included, yet again, a tone of distain of all things Jewish. Putting the final nail in the designer’s coffin, Natalie Portman came out in a statement condemning the designer and in not many words announcing that it’s either her or him. Dior, it seems, chose her.

“I condemn with the greatest firmness the comments made by John Galliano,” Sidney Toledano, Dior’s chief executive said “[The comments are] in total contradiction with the essential values which have always been defended by Christian Dior.”
