Insect Jewelry At Sotheby’s Magnificent Jewels Auction And Exhibition

Insect Jewelry At Sotheby’s Magnificent Jewels Auction And Exhibition

I felt the wonderfully quirky insect jewelry in the upcoming Sotheby's Magnificent Jewels December 2010 auction event need a feature of their own.

After spending some time staring at the diamonds, I moved on to the less news-worthy five-digit price range items. The first pair of brooches I noticed where the fly and butterfly pair. The gold, colored stone and diamond butterfly circa 1840 and the gold, baroque pearl, colored stone and diamond fly brooch from the 19th century are estimated to sell at about $12,000 and $9,000 respectively.

In the vicinity there were also the jewels from another auction taking place on December 9th - Jewels from the Estate of William B. Dietrich Sold to Benefit the William B. ...

Oversize Diamonds At Sotheby’s Magnificent Jewels Auction And Exhibition

Oversize Diamonds At Sotheby’s Magnificent Jewels Auction And Exhibition

I've opened my last Friday morning with mini-muffins and trying not to get that mini-muffin grease on a rare $1.6 million light pink 10.46 carat diamond ring at the Sotheby's Magnificent Jewels December 2010 auction preview.

Of course first in the auction food-chain you have the double-digit carat rings - a 54.20 carat yellow diamond and a mere 10.46 carat light pink diamond - set to sell for over $2.5 and $1.4 respectively. True freaks of nature. What gives these rocks their distinctive hues is what essentially can only be described as defects in the otherwise perfect carbon molecule structure.

Then you have the necklaces. Epitomizing old-world glamour are the Tiffany & Co 27.19 carat diamond pendant-necklace and the diamond rivière necklace ...

Diana Strele Jewelry Is Worthy Of Hannibal Lecter

Diana Strele Jewelry Is Worthy Of Hannibal Lecter

Diana Strele is a Dutch accessories designer for Pieces and lets just say that her day job is a tad more conventional than her first Diana Strele Jewelry collection. Granted, the jewelry is not for sale and only showcased in a digital lookbook, photographed by Åsmund Sollihøgda, available to download at her website.

Strele's first signature signature jewelry is a prime example of over-conceptualized design. The collection, Diana Strele tells Vogue.it, is meant to evoke thought of Nordic mythology, warriors and body armor. Instead, all I can think of is a scary voice telling me to put the lotion in the basket. Still, the craftsmanship is superb and the talent is definitely there. Perhaps when creating her next ...

Gap X Valentino Collaboration Arrives In Europe

Gap X Valentino Collaboration Arrives In Europe

That Gap X Valentino collaboration collection has finally arrived to Gap's brand new Milan store and will reach London and Paris next week.

Gap X Valentino is basically Valentino gone utilitarian. A lot of ruffles and bows in canvas. Valentino is not the only high-fashion brand collaboration for sale in Gap right now. With that Valentino coat you can also pick up a pair of Pierre Hardy shoes.

I'm not a cargo pants fan (maybe that's why I don't know how the inside of a Gap store looks) but this coat is definitely something special.

It’s All About The Turban These Days

It’s All About The Turban These Days

According to the New York Times. Jason Wu and Vena Cava styled their Spring 2011 runway shows with turbans. Giorgio Armani went as far as creating the whole Spring 2011 collection inspired by Sahara and of course styled the runway show with turbans. Turbans, it appears, are so hot right now.

Outside the realm of runway a few brave souls mastered the art of turban as well. The leading woman is June Ambrose who rocked different turbans during Spring 2011 New York Fashion Week and even styled Solange Knowles in one. Salma Hayek took it upon herself to wear a turban to the Stella McCartney Spring 2011 show.

The number is only growing, so to join in on the fun - ...

10th Anniversary: Marc By Marc Jacobs Through The Years

10th Anniversary: Marc By Marc Jacobs Through The Years

In two months, Marc Jacobs' diffusion collection Marc By Marc Jacobs is going to close a decade of crazy sales figures and Bleecker Street's main tourist attraction. Interestingly enough, Marc By Marc Jacobs wasn't even Marc Jacobs' idea. The diffusion line is the brainchild of Jacobs' business partner Robert Duffy. He had to convince not only LVMH but also Marc Jacobs himself that a lot of money can be made by selling a dumbed down version of Marc Jacobs to young people. To this day, a separate design team works on creating Marc By Marc Jacobs with the man himself only approving it at it's final stage.

It is interesting to see Marc By Marc Jacobs evolving over the past ten ...

Natalia Vodianova For Etam Fall 2010: Tzarina, Nuits Blanches and Conte de fée

Natalia Vodianova For Etam Fall 2010: Tzarina, Nuits Blanches and Conte de fée

I knew that Natalia Vodianova is the face of the French lingerie company Etam for a few seasons now, but I was surprised to learn that she even designs capsule collections for them!

For fall 2010, Natalia Vodianova designed her 4th capsule collection Natalia for Etam. And this time she drew inspiration from her native homeland - Russia. The result is 3 different lines - Tzarina (Empress), Nuits Blanches (White Nights) and Conte de fée (Fairy Tale), each one inspired by a different Russian motif. One thing is clear, the three lines are colorful, sexy and highly original.
