10 Woven Bags For A Relaxed Look This Summer

10 Woven Bags For A Relaxed Look This Summer

When we think of woven bags, a free-spirited summer comes to mind. And this summer, the designers stepped it up and created some very luxurious and original takes on the trend. The beauty of a well designed woven bag is that you can either match it to a Bohemian day look or dress it up for an effortless summer-y evening look.

On the highest end you have, of course, the classic Bettoga Veneta Intrecciato, but it no longer has to be the classic basket weave. Diane Von Furstenberg offers a woven chain-link leather hobo bag that has a very interesting texture and feel to it and Stella McCartney produced her classic Falabella tote out of chunky woven cotton-blend fabric.

We'll begin with ...

It’s All About The Turban These Days

It’s All About The Turban These Days

According to the New York Times. Jason Wu and Vena Cava styled their Spring 2011 runway shows with turbans. Giorgio Armani went as far as creating the whole Spring 2011 collection inspired by Sahara and of course styled the runway show with turbans. Turbans, it appears, are so hot right now.

Outside the realm of runway a few brave souls mastered the art of turban as well. The leading woman is June Ambrose who rocked different turbans during Spring 2011 New York Fashion Week and even styled Solange Knowles in one. Salma Hayek took it upon herself to wear a turban to the Stella McCartney Spring 2011 show.

The number is only growing, so to join in on the fun - ...

Print Mixology at Japan Fashion Week: G.V.G.V Spring 2011

Print Mixology at Japan Fashion Week: G.V.G.V Spring 2011

I discovered the brand G.V.G.V only recently while doing imaginary shopping at the Opening Ceremony webstore (am I the only one who does that?). The Japanese label was created over 10 years ago by the Japanese designer Mug. A mix of femininity and masculinity is how Mug best describes her style.

What immediately caught my attention in the new G.V.G.V Spring 2011 collection is not only the bold use of color but also the bold print mixing. The most eye catching prints G.V.G.V offers us for Spring 2011 are the Ikat and leopard prints, but also included in the collection are other East Indies inspired prints.

The collection of course is a few months out of our reach, but in the ...

Fall 2010 Leopard Accents: Accessories

Fall 2010 Leopard Accents: Accessories

Leopard prints are everywhere this fall. Every day is a Roberto Cavalli day. If you feel animal print clothes are too big a statement for you, don't worry. This fall you have wonderful leopard-print bags, shoes and accessories to choose from that won't leave you looking like a Jersey Shore outcast. As long as you don't wear more than one - anything goes!

5 Leather shorts you need to know about

5 Leather shorts you need to know about

I don't know if you noticed, but the leather trend very much continues into this fall. It began last year, with designers using leather, as they would a fabric, to create both minimal and ladylike dresses, bubble skirts and a myriad of pants, jackets and coats. I also cannot leave unmentioned the uniform biker leather jacket, as at this point each and and every one of us probably has one in her closet.

While some fashion houses hasn't changed their tune and continue to see leather as way to create a bad girl look (hint, it begins with a 'B' and ends with a 'main'), most others has moved on beyond this one dimensional use, ...

Proenza Schouler Graffiti Jeans

Proenza Schouler Graffiti Jeans

The Proenza Schouler + J. Brand collaboration gave us these graffiti jeans this fall. And one thing is certain - they are on a fast track to becoming the 'it' jeans. In the Proenza Schouler Fall 2010 show we got to see two color combinations - monochrome (they opened the show) and black and blue.

The jeans will retail for $550 at Bergdorf Goodman.

Fall 2010 Trend Alert: Baggy leather pants

Fall 2010 Trend Alert: Baggy leather pants

If Balmain could have it's way, we would all be wearing leather skinny pants right now. With so many fashion houses and department stores offering us a myriad of skinny pants and leggings in leather or pvc, some designers are trying to move the leather pants look into a more adult, even ladylike, direction if you will. A blessed move if you ask me.

Aquascutum, Bottega Veneta and Reed Krakoff all included wide leather pants as part of their collections for fall 2010.Aquascutum even has a leather maxi skirt, which combines two fall trends into one!

Gallery after the jump.

Fall 2010 Trend Alert: Nude Maxi Dresses

Fall 2010 Trend Alert: Nude Maxi Dresses

Let's face it, the maxi isn't going away. Believe me when I say it has just began. Since ever, the maxi has been a must for black tie events. A lot of beachwear kaftans and coverups are maxis as well. But how can it translate into our everyday life? I don't see it blend in well into an office look - unless you're a fashion magazine editor, perhaps you can try a tailored maxi skirt. Still, for a day out, a weekend, or a dinner party - the maxi dress is your friend. Alright, so you've decided to go for it, but what color should you choose? What style? The big volume of maxi dresses we see on the streets and ...

Summer 2011 Trend Alert: Wide brim sun hats

Summer 2011 Trend Alert: Wide brim sun hats

Just two weeks ago the temperature in NYC reached the boiling hot benchmark of 103 degrees. While I was able to solve my cats' problem by padding their hangout spots with bags of frozen pees, I myself, seeing how I'm the one with opposable thumbs, had the unsolvable problem of needing to go out into the scorching heat to run errands (you know, like buying food and shoes). Armed with SPF 30 sunscreen and my dependable Ray-Bans, I bravely said goodbye to the A/C and stepped outside.
