The stylish front row girls of Chanel Haute Couture

The stylish front row girls of Chanel Haute Couture

I'd say the guests of the Chanel Couture show held their fashionista ground quite nicely under the shadow of the giant golden lion. The list included the Gossip Girl girls, Jessica Alba, Milla Jovovich, Anna Mouglalis, Clémence Poésy, Lou Doillon, Poppy Delevigne, Caroline Sieber and Rinko Kikuchi.

Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli made it their mission to attract new younger costumers. That explains perfectly the tiers and bows extravaganza, served blended, not stirred on a vast array of mini dresses with a strong mod vibe. The Dark Side of First Love, they dubbed this collection and thus we got torsos trapped in bird cages. I have the feeling we'll be seeing a lot of this collection worn by young starlets on the red carpet.

I think I've died and went to ornamentation heaven. As you remember from my previous post, Riccardo Tisci chose not to have a runway show this season. Obviously he had a good reason. A runway show could have never given those exquisite details the attention they deserve. Oh what wouldn't I give to see the golden dress up close. Riccardo Tisci is a genius.

Giorgio Armani Privé Fall/Winter 2010/11 Haute Couture

Well. No adrenaline rush here, that's for sure.

In this show we get elegant, glamorous, superbly made clothes. All in beige, amber and brown colors. And .... that's about it. One thing is certain, Armani is the master of grace and simplicity. Oh, and by the way, am I the only one disturbed that all the models look like Clair Danes (who of course attended)?

I'll start the photos from the end this time. This way you'll get to see the evening wear first.

Eli Saab Fall/Winter 2010/11 Haute Couture

Eli Saab turned intricate embroidery and draping into pure art. I'm sure we'll be seeing these a lot on the red carpet for the next season. Each and every one of dresses leaves an impression. You need to see for yourself!

Jean Paul Gaultier Fall/Winter 2010/11 Haute Couture

Très chic is the name of this game. Jean Paul Gaultier said he wanted to focus on the essence of Parisian style and couture tradition and indeed he has. I love love love this collection. Such theatrics. Such energy. And Dita Von Teese was a perfect fit for this show. She has a genuine 40s glamour vibe about her, which was a big part of the collections spirit. You must go through all the photos! You'll love it! (I'll calm down now)

So why was there an 8 ton, 40 foot tall golden lion with it's paw on a pearl at the Chanel Haute Couture show? Because Karl Lagerfeld can get one. And really, if you're already getting one, where else would you put it? The official story is that Coco was a Leo. Although this collection features rather reserved silhouettes, it more makes up for it in the variation and richness of details. The show started off with day wear and tweeds and progressed into evening wear and almost fantasy like textures and colors. There were so many pieces in the evening wear I liked, that I stopped counting.

Watching John Galliano's floral inspired Dior Haute Couture collection makes me feel like I'm a beautiful botanic garden and if I just take deep enough a breath maybe I can smell the flowers.
