Araisara Spring 2011 Show Kicked Off Japan Fashion Week Today

Araisara Spring 2011 Show Kicked Off Japan Fashion Week Today

Japan Fashion Week Spring 2011 runway schedule began today with araisara as the opening show.

According to WWD, this season Japan Fashion Week officials decided to put emphasis on the buyers and not the media. They decided to use their, tight as it is, budget to fly in buyers and not international fashion journalists. The plan might hurt Japan Fashion Week's international coverage initially but will probably pay off in the long run, as buyers are the ones making the important decisions.

The schedule have just began, but I already have a coveted accessory! Araisara sent an eclectic ready-to-wear collection down the runway. Especially standing out is the oversize buckle belt. How amazing is that?

Helmut Lang Handbags Debut For Spring 2011

Helmut Lang Handbags Debut For Spring 2011

Each season, the Austrian label Helmut Lang brings into the world a collection of minimal chic silhouettes through draped jersey and linens in muted neutral color palette. For Spring 2011, Nicole and Michael Colovos added a handbags collection in that same Helmut Lang spirit.

In tones of black, olive, beige and one popping red we get totes and clutches, each for different occasion. Be it the textured snake-skin clutch or the chunky shoulder bag, they are all going into my must-have list.

‘It’ Handbags: The New Roberto Cavalli Diva Bag

The colossal birthday party and extravagant runway show were not the only way Roberto Cavalli celebrated his 40th anniversary. He also launched a new handbag - the Diva bag, which made it's debut on the Roberto Cavalli Spring 2011 runway show two weeks ago.

Lanvin Spring 2011 Close-Up: Insect Jewelry

Besides sending ultra modern and feminine clothes down the runway a few days ago, Alber Elbaz styled the models with chunky insect jewelry giving all his looks that ever-so-desired 70's feel.

We have flies, moths and butterflies resting on belts, harness-like necklaces, chokers and bracelets. Gorgeous!

Anna Dello Russo Models For Emanuel Ungaro Runway Show

Anna Dello Russo Models For Emanuel Ungaro Runway Show

Anna Dello Russo, Japanese Vogue fashion director, modeled in Giles Deacon's first collection show for Emanuel Ungaro. While the show and the collection were magnificent, I cannot help but think it was a lapse in judgment on Dello Russo's part.

Isn't it the ultimate impartiality faux pas?

Balenciaga Watch Runway Debut

Balenciaga Watch Runway Debut

Nicolas Ghesquière debuted quite an amazing timepiece on the Balenciaga runway last Thursday. Looking like a leather strap bracelet, the watch comes in three leathers -python, crocodile and lizard. It's highly limited-edition and will be retailing at $1,400 in Balenciaga stores in November.

Balmain Spring 2011 Collection Review: The Overpriced Wannabe Look

Balmain Spring 2011 Collection Review: The Overpriced Wannabe Look

Balmain's phony rocker wannabe look has become somewhat of a joke at this point. And the new Spring 2011 collection has taken it into the ridiculous costume realm.

Having spent most of my teenage years as a corseted goth, I'm not one to dismiss punk as a legitimate style. But paying $5000 and up for a shredded spike embellished jean jacket? I'll be the first one to point and laugh at the poor soul that falls victim to the trend and buys items from this collection.

There's really not much else I can say of the collection. It's packed with tiny leather or jean shorts; leather or jean capris; t-shirts and tanks; blazers and jean jackets. All shredded, acid washed and spike ...

Video: Gareth Pugh Spring 2011 Presentation Film

Gareth Pugh's Spring 2011 show notes state, "I feel very strongly that Fashion Film should not be seen as a secondary medium to live catwalk events, but a modern alternative."

The 11 minute film, directed by Ruth Hogben, is starring the gray haired 90's model Kristen McMenamy with appropriate techno house soundtrack - setting the mood for those wide-leg wrap pants which are pretty much tailored raver pants. The looks seemingly morph into one another, fact that probably would have been missed had it been a regular presentation.

As always, Pugh's collection, although on the odd side, remained commercially viable offering many superbly tailored jackets, coats and dresses. Some of the dresses, made out of a softer fabric, were almost flowing - ...

Milan Fashion Week: 20 Most Striking Spring 2011 Looks

Milan Fashion Week: 20 Most Striking Spring 2011 Looks

Milan fashion week came to an end two days ago. After the neutrals bore of New York and quirky London came the much needed glamour of Milan. Though we had plenty of neutrals, the bold silhouettes and intense color blocking elevated the spirits. We still have Paris Fashion Week ahead of us, but so far Milan is far ahead in terms of 'wow' factor.

Pierre Cardin Returns To Runway

Pierre Cardin Returns To Runway

I was very excited to learn that Pierre Cardin, an old time French fashion power house returns to produce seasonal collections. He is currently operating one couture store (with loyal clientele of course) in Paris and has licensees producing boring elegant suits and ties for men which Mr. Cardin himself in not particularly fond of.

Unlike other big name fashion houses who return to produce collections after a long hiatus, Pierre Cardin, who is 88, is not hiring a youngling to revive his brand. He's designing the new collections himself. And he's determined to remind to the world of his futuristic avant-garde aesthetic (unlike that boring menswear that carries his name) - especially the young people who might not remember him.

I ...
