Q&A With Michelle Ng – Creative Director Of Young&ng Jewelry

Q&A With Michelle Ng – Creative Director Of Young&ng Jewelry

Young&ng jewelry is the brainchild of designer Michelle Ng. Her second collection to date -Fall 2011- was inspired by the intricacy of the human body (blood cells, bones and muscles) and debuted to public, very appropriately I must say, at the BODIES Exhibition here in New York. Be it the little red Swarovski crystals resembling blood cells or metalwork mimicking the bone matrix, Young&ng headpieces and cuffs are definitely making a statement with each piece being a wearable art.

Having received a formal art training at the University of Auckland, New Zealand, Michelle Ng walks the fine line between art and fashion, creating unique but accessible jewelry. With two beautiful Young&ng collections under her belt, to say we expect great things ...

Miu Miu Fall 2011: ‘It’ Cat-Eye Sunglasses, Oversize Clutches and Glitter

Miu Miu Fall 2011: ‘It’ Cat-Eye Sunglasses, Oversize Clutches and Glitter

While normally Miu Miu collections serve us with an over-the-top dose of young playfulness, this time Miu Miu Fall 2011 was all about vintage coquettish chic. One could consider vintage dressing as adult, remembering a mother's style in the Fifties, but there was something very young and fresh about the collection. No dowdiness in sight.

Miu Miu Fall 2011 served us with familiar vintage hourglass-shaped dresses and coats, updated into the now with oversize elements like huge shoulders, outsize collars and fur stoles used as belts.

The best part of the collection were the accessories. The bags were all oversize gold frame clutches, made out of leather, suede or fur and those cat-eye sunglasses, cropped at the tip, will surely become an ...

Roger Vivier’s Bruno Frisoni Designs New Limited-Edition ‘Rendez-Vous’ Accessories

It was last year when Roger Vivier artistic director Bruno Frisoni decided to stop the label's couture line. "When I showed couture in January, I was thinking it was something that wasn’t me anymore. I thought the time had passed," he said at the time.

Bruno Frisoni maybe doesn't produce couture looks for Roger Vivier anymore, but he hasn't stopped creating. A new Roger Vivier limited-edition accessories line titled Rendez-Vous was born. Consisting of luxurious handmade shoes and clutches, Rendez-Vous items are produced in quantities of 10-20 of each. We are essentially talking about haute couture accessories here.

Meeting with Telegraph's Hilary Alexander, Frisoni explained that the new Rendez-Vous collection is about "Marlene Dietrich-meets-punk" - a sort of hard-edge sophistication.

Rendez-Vous will ...

Going Greek With Versace Spring 2011 Accessories

Going Greek With Versace Spring 2011 Accessories

The Versace Spring 2011 was a roaring success. Rigorous body conscious dresses and pencil high-waisted skirts combined with cropped jackets showing just enough midriff to make it sensual, not vulgar. Cutout details, draped fringe and the Greek key pattern were integrated so well into the pieces that they didn't loose their minimalist feel. Clean use of bright colors - red, yellow and turquoise - contributed to that effect as well.

The Greek key was also used on belts, handbags and even sandals, in contrasting color, the pattern turned each and every one of those into a statement piece.

The campaign advertising Versace Spring 2011 accessories features a nude January Jones with nothing but the shoes and bags on her. Available in ...

Lanvin Spring 2011 Insect Jewelry Is Buzz-Worthy

Lanvin Spring 2011 collection was a celebration of femininity and old-world elegance with flowing, masterfully draped dresses, accentuated with chunky insect jewelry which gave it an instant vintage vibe.

The collection featured insect jewelry, done with a modern edge, in every shape and form. Butterflies, moths and flies found themselves on bracelets - metal or leather cuffs, on necklaces - chokers, satin tie or body harnesses, and on little brooches, so longing for a jacket lapel.

Insect Jewelry At Sotheby’s Magnificent Jewels Auction And Exhibition

Insect Jewelry At Sotheby’s Magnificent Jewels Auction And Exhibition

I felt the wonderfully quirky insect jewelry in the upcoming Sotheby's Magnificent Jewels December 2010 auction event need a feature of their own.

After spending some time staring at the diamonds, I moved on to the less news-worthy five-digit price range items. The first pair of brooches I noticed where the fly and butterfly pair. The gold, colored stone and diamond butterfly circa 1840 and the gold, baroque pearl, colored stone and diamond fly brooch from the 19th century are estimated to sell at about $12,000 and $9,000 respectively.

In the vicinity there were also the jewels from another auction taking place on December 9th - Jewels from the Estate of William B. Dietrich Sold to Benefit the William B. ...

Oversize Diamonds At Sotheby’s Magnificent Jewels Auction And Exhibition

Oversize Diamonds At Sotheby’s Magnificent Jewels Auction And Exhibition

I've opened my last Friday morning with mini-muffins and trying not to get that mini-muffin grease on a rare $1.6 million light pink 10.46 carat diamond ring at the Sotheby's Magnificent Jewels December 2010 auction preview.

Of course first in the auction food-chain you have the double-digit carat rings - a 54.20 carat yellow diamond and a mere 10.46 carat light pink diamond - set to sell for over $2.5 and $1.4 respectively. True freaks of nature. What gives these rocks their distinctive hues is what essentially can only be described as defects in the otherwise perfect carbon molecule structure.

Then you have the necklaces. Epitomizing old-world glamour are the Tiffany & Co 27.19 carat diamond pendant-necklace and the diamond rivière necklace ...

Diana Strele Jewelry Is Worthy Of Hannibal Lecter

Diana Strele Jewelry Is Worthy Of Hannibal Lecter

Diana Strele is a Dutch accessories designer for Pieces and lets just say that her day job is a tad more conventional than her first Diana Strele Jewelry collection. Granted, the jewelry is not for sale and only showcased in a digital lookbook, photographed by Åsmund Sollihøgda, available to download at her website.

Strele's first signature signature jewelry is a prime example of over-conceptualized design. The collection, Diana Strele tells Vogue.it, is meant to evoke thought of Nordic mythology, warriors and body armor. Instead, all I can think of is a scary voice telling me to put the lotion in the basket. Still, the craftsmanship is superb and the talent is definitely there. Perhaps when creating her next ...
